Wayanad - green paradise

This is one of the fourteen districts in Kerala, situated at a picturesque mountainous plateau in Western Ghats. Wayanad has a unique geographical position here you will find luxurious plantations of coffee, pepper,rubber, tea and cardamom etc. Wayanand shares its borders with Coorg district of Karnataka on the north, on the west with Calicut and Cannanore district on the south, with Malappuram district. All this attract tourists to come here throughout the year.

Prime Attractions of Wayanad

Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary : This wild life sanctuary established in 1973 to protect rare species of animals in the area of Nagarhole and Bandipore of Karnataka and Mudumalai of Tamil Nadu.

Edakkal Caves : This cave is located in the Ambukuthi hills. There is a myth that this cave was formed by a large spilt in a huge rock. This cave belongs to the Neolithic and Mesolithic age. Inside the cave you will find cave drawings, ancient stone scripts, pictorial inscriptions, etc.

Pookot Lake : This is very popular tourist destinations in Wayanand, surrounded by lush greenery, and wooded slopes. Here you will find a fresh-water aquarium filled with an excellent array of fishes in the lake. All these attract tourists a lot.

Lakkidi : This is the gateway of Wayanad situated 700 m above sea level, at the crest of the Thamaraserri ghat pass. Here lofty peaks, green lush forests add magic to the journey. Lakkidii is one of the highest locations in Wayanad. Apart from this Wayanad is the place where Kerala's famous satirist poet born here.
